Association
General
The Koninklijke Nederlandse Pharmaceutische Studenten Vereniging (translated as the Royal Dutch Pharmaceutical Students' Association, K.N.P.S.V.) is a national study association in the Netherlands representing the interests of all (bio-)pharmaceutical students. The association was founded on 22 May 1903 in the city of Leiden as the Algemene Nederlandse Pharmaceutische Studenten Vereniging (A.N.P.S.V.). In 2003, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary, the Royal designation was awarded to the association, after which the association changed its name to “Koninklijke Nederlandse Pharmaceutische Studenten Vereniging”.
The K.N.P.S.V. is the umbrella association of the four (bio-)pharmaceutical study associations in the Netherlands. Every student who becomes a member of one of these study associations automatically becomes a member of the K.N.P.S.V. The study associations we represent are:
- G.F.S.V. “Pharmaciae Sacrum”, from Pharmacy and Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences in Groningen
- L.P.S.V. „Aesculapius”, from Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacy in Leiden
- U.P.S.V. “Unitas Pharmaceuticorum” from Pharmacy, College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Innovation in Utrecht
- Vereniging van Chemie Studenten aan de Vrije Universiteit (VCSVU) from Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Discovery Sciences in Amsterdam.
The K.N.P.S.V. organises activities for its members and maintains contacts with professional associations, wholesalers, industry and foreign students. Annual activities include the Pharmacy Hockey Tournament, the Policy Activity, the International Lecture, the Twinnet exchange and the K.N.P.S.V. Congress during Ascension weekend. There are also activities organised every other year, namely the Proffessions Day, the Day of the Pharmaceutical Industry and lastly the K.N.P.S.V. has its own association magazine the "Folia Pharmaceutica".
The association's objectives can be found under “Association documents”.

Objectives of the K.N.P.S.V.
The main objective of the K.N.P.S.V. is to represent the interests of all Dutch students in Pharmacy and (Bio-)Pharmaceutical Sciences. It is in the interest of the Dutch student to develop socially and scientifically and to offer this as a supplement to their education. The K.N.P.S.V. contributes to this through three key focus areas:
The K.N.P.S.V. is the link between students and the professional world
The K.N.P.S.V. maintains contacts with professional associations and thus forms the bridge between students of (bio-)pharmacy on one side and professional associations on the other. As a result, the K.N.P.S.V. is a national point of contact for these associations to reach all Dutch (bio-)pharmacists from the various departments. This contact is important for students to connect with future employers and to stay informed about all important aspects and changes in the professional world. To achieve this, the K.N.P.S.V. maintains intensive contact with various professional associations. These include the Royal Society for the Advancement of Pharmacy (KNMP), the Dutch Association of Hospital Pharmacists (NVZA), the Association for Dutch Industry Pharmacists (NIA), and the Association of Young Pharmacists (VJA).
International involvement and representation
The K.N.P.S.V. is a member of the European and global association for pharmaceutical students, namely the European Pharmaceutical Students’ Association (EPSA) and the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF). Two board members of the K.N.P.S.V. Board are official contacts for these associations. They represent the Dutch (bio-)pharmacy students during the general meetings of EPSA and IPSF.
Through these associations, the K.N.P.S.V. participates in various projects, making foreign internships and exchanges available to members. Members of the K.N.P.S.V. are automatically members of EPSA and IPSF and can become actively involved in these associations and attend their events. These events generally consist of educational workshops, lectures, and social activities. Here, members can meet students and cultures from other countries.
During the education, the focus is logically on the situation in the Netherlands. It is therefore very useful to come into contact with pharmacy students in other countries through EPSA and IPSF and to learn to collaborate internationally. Of course, this also results in an international network that can be useful during and after your studies.
Fraternisation of pharmacy and (bio)pharmaceutical students in the Netherlands
It is useful to get to know students from other cities and learn about the different curricula between the studies for later collaboration in the (bio)pharmaceutical field. There are four local branches in the Netherlands, namely G.F.S.V. ‘Pharmaciae Sacrum’ in Groningen, L.P.S.V. “Aesculapius” in Leiden, U.P.S.V. ‘Unitas Pharmaceuticorum’ in Utrecht and the Association of Chemistry Students at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. As a member of one of the four local branches, you are automatically a member of the K.N.P.S.V. The activities of the K.N.P.S.V. are therefore open to students from all four cities. Travel expenses incurred to attend K.N.P.S.V. activities are reimbursed by the association with a personal contribution of €4.50. The board of the K.N.P.S.V. is often present at branch activities so that they can stay informed of developments within the branches and strengthen ties with the members.

Ph.V.D. "Hygeia"
The K.N.P.S.V. has one sorority: Pharmaceutical Women's Sorority “Hygeia”.
Since 2005, the K.N.P.S.V. has been enriched with a fantastic society – that was the year the Pharmaceutical Women’s Society ‘Hygeia’ was founded! Around January, one or more new ladies from each city are invited to join us. Activities of ‘Hygeia’ include the Spring and Autumn Weekends, dinners, and the annual karaoke night.
